SFU Community Engaged Research Initiative

Fall 2020 CERi Research Funding Program

In collaboration with International Tristar Taiji Association, I am conducting a research project to document the progress of a group of students who started learning Taiji during the COVID-19 pandemic. Through surveys and interviews, I gather feedback of how Tristar Taichi has impacted the physical and mental health of its practitioners. This new group of Chinese immigrant female students who enrolled during the COVID-19 pandemic started through virtual classes. After a month of online instructions, many of them switched to attending in-person classes when the academy reopened in June. They went back to online classes when the school was closed again due to restrictions in November 2020.
